Remembering last summer

July 10th, 2012

Have you seen summer? You know, summer…the season when we wake up with the sun on our face and we go to bed with the windows wide open after a lovely alfresco meal shared with family and friends. The season when we often complain how it is just too hot and from the moment we have a chance rush off to the seaside.

How I long for summer. For now I invite you to dream away in front of these pictures taken last year. The sun, the hills, the beaches, the sunset at Es Vedra and the best homade croissant I ever had in my life. As you can see it was not eaten in France but in Ibiza, more particular at la Paloma, a lovely restaurant in the middle of the island. A place where all you had to do was sit back, relax and enjoy the glorious organic food under the lemon and orange trees.

Just follow this gracious blond lady she will take you there.

Ampersand House || Epilogue

July 6th, 2012

I think by now you should get the atmosphere and scale of the project. But, what do you see beyond this great 1950s chair?

Indeed, a beautiful city garden. As you can see the weather gods were not on my side the day of my visit. It actually started raining realy badly when I entered the garden but I was still able to take some pictures. Icing on the cake is that the garden and gallery are at your disposal if you wish to organize an event. Not only is Ampersand House a gallery of art and design, Ike and Kathryn provide an event service so they can accommodate you and your guests in this great setting. Sounds like a great plan, doesn’t it?

Thank you, Ike and Kathryn, for your hospitality and showing me around. I hope to visit the house again really soon.

Great Outdoor: Colour Palette

May 9th, 2012

The editorials which have struck me the most lately are those with a rather muted colour palette. At first, I wanted to go full on for colour and paint the terrace walls in a bright hue, reminiscent of Louis Barragan’s houses, but I figured that working with a warm and neutral colour scheme will make it easier to add colour with accessories.

While researching the photographers of those editorials I stumbled upon two detail shots by Heidi Lerkenfeld which I really liked and a couple of months ago I bookmarked the second picture by Pia Ulin. My mind just did the rest and connected the dots (I love when this happens!). So I am going to apply this two tone concept to the outer walls. I was thinking warm green or rich khaki keeping the top part of the walls
white…What do you think?

Great Outdoors: Miniscapes

May 8th, 2012

While everybody in Antwerp was going Slinkachu crazy over the weekend I discovered a way to take similar wonderful mini universes home. Because let’s face it summer is not at all here to stay (even the weatherman admitted on national tv that the weather was utterly depressing) so I started looking for ways to take the greenery inside. These so called Miniscapes are the creation of Clea Gregan located in Melbourne, Australia. As she puts it on her website, these terrariums are a sustainable alternative for flower arrangements. I thought making terrariums was a long gone pastime from an other area but seriously, how cool are they? If only I had the patience to make my own…for now I have sent her an email asking if she ships to Europe.
